~day 180: Light, Love, Life~

"I am going to Light, to Love, to Life!" These were the dying words of Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity. She spoke them at the moment of death; and we may speak them too, in the daily ‘death’ we face. This is not necessarily a bodily death, but the death of loss, of betrayal, of sin, of guilt and hopelessness. It’s a death of love and of life and of unity that we have to face every day.

What gives us hope? What lets us know, that we don’t need to wait until we die, in the bodily sense, to enter into Light, into Love, into Life? Christ is Risen, and we know, that Light, Love, and Life, are already here—alive with us, and through us.

This evening Fr. William Pearsall SJ, of Farm Street Church, London, gave a beautiful reflection on the meaning of the resurrection in our ordinary lives—it’s my personal opinion that Fr. William is a ‘secret saint,’ as yet uncanonised, but someone who truly is full of zeal for the Lord. A former atheist, he always brings a refreshing intellectualism, coupled with a smiling joy, to the celebration of the mass. His words, spoken at the Easter vigil, are paraphrased by me here:

"It isn’t easy to hold our faith. We know, only all too well, that there is a gravitational pull away from it. All around us, there are people who say: ‘it’s all in the mind.’ It’s just a bunch of made-up stories. People want us to think this. But there is a need in the human heart that calls to be addressed—the question that begs to be answered: ‘Why am I here? What is the purpose and meaning of my life?’

Everyone needs to have a reason for being. In our society today, many people have given up the search for meaning. "No one has the answer," or "No one will ever have the answer," is the conclusion many have come to; so, they determine that it’s best to just get on with things and ‘make the most out of it.’ But this attitude of relativism prevents us from reaching the true pinnacle of our existence—not just knowing our meaning, but searching for it. We cannot frivolously uproot this need and dispense with the questions either too hard, or too uncomfortable to answer. We must get to the centre of our existence.

One of the ‘agreed meanings’—that is, a meaning of life that the entirety of humanity is agreed upon—is Love. The other is Life. Life, in itself, is worth living. And Love and Life go hand-in-hand together.

Scripture, as evident in tonight’s readings from Genesis and Exodus, makes abundantly clear the connection between creation and the search for meaning, the hope of a people who look towards a promise yet to be fulfilled. What Scripture reveals is a saving work in history, of which God is the author and engineer. God made us for himself. Creation is God’s act of love. To quote one of the early Church fathers,

"Out of the abundance of Your love, You created everything."

For many people, nature alone is enough to satisfy their quest for meaning. This is because creation is the sacrament of God’s presence. Our need, however, is even more deeply satisfied in the sacraments of redemption.

God is Love and He is Life. The Spirit that breathes life into creation, is the very same Spirit that breathed life into the body of Jesus Christ, and it is the same Spirit that raised Him.

We place our faith in this. But it’s a faith we can’t ever truly lapse from because we already experience what our faith proclaims. We fall, and we are raised. Our hope is not allowed to die. God can never stop loving.

Search, doubt, question. Seek, always. But never give up on the unity of Love and Life. Our eternal life won’t begin when we die. It began the moment we were conceived."

Christ is Risen, Alleluia, He is Risen Indeed!

In 2004 Mark Chironna was exposed to TBN and local “Christian” television broadcasters for mailing from his ministry an offer of a magic “Holy Spirit” prayer cloth for 0.00; 0.00 if he wore the magic prayer cloth while he was “preaching” or “teaching” before he sent it to you. The “Christian” stations, of course, did NOT remove Mark Chironna from their program schedules, but Mark did agree to remove his materials from the occult web sites. Fortunately someone was alert enough to copy these materials before Mark could conceal his connections and protect his scam. Mark Chironna is an “Apostle” recognized by Peter Wagner’s “International Coalition of Apostles.” Mark runs his own marketing scheme under the name, “Legacy Alliance.” “Love Psychics” – Bird of Paradise (Fly up Your Nose)
